Happy Friday! :D A couple of changes and news I wanted to share:

Today's the last day to enter the My Dear Darling Mini Penguin Giveaway!
I'll be announcing the winner on Monday instead of tomorrow. I apologize for the weekend delay, but who doesn't like a little bit of suspense? :P
I will announce the winner tomorrow as planned. :)

The ready made Mini Penguins are launching tomorrow in my shop! Are you excited? I sure am! So stop by and check them out. Psst, as of now, I have six different colors!

This news is a bit into the future but I will not be taking any made to order products and personalized orders after I am booked up to August 31st. Currently, I have "creation date" appointments booked till August 10th so spaces are filling up quite fast. I will have ready made products in the shop for sale from September 1st to the 21st. My husband and I are renewing our vows and going on our mini-moon with our entire group of family and friends. :D I will need September to prepare for all the things that I've been putting aside. I apologize for the inconvenience.

Things will go back to normal when I'm back and open the shop on October 6th. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. :) Thank you!

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

New Avatar

Good morning. :) Last night, I finally updated all the My Dear Darling avatars to this little guy.
If you don't remember, I used to have the Panda Pillow photo. Although my panda was popular and easy to recognize, I wanted to change it to the penguin because they're the reason why I started my business! It's only fair that I give them the spotlight, right? :) Penguin love. <3

Do you like the new avatar?

Electric Sheep Podcast

A few weeks ago, my friend introduced me to Podcasts. I had heard about them but never really listened to one. He showed me the way around the iTunes store and how you could search for Podcasts under topics of interest. Of course, the first one under "crafts" was Etsy's Podcast. I believe most of them are linked to Etsy's blog so you don't necessarily have to subscribe if you're on top of their blog posts. I subscribed anyway just in case I'd miss anything and continued searching for others.

After a few hours, I stumbled across the Electric Sheep. I listened to the latest post, Tea and Sympathy, and loved it. The topics, the tempo, the humor and the background music mixed so well, like your favorite cocktail; the same mixed drink that you tend to order everytime you go out to a bar. I listened to one of her older ones, enjoyed it, subscribed and downloaded the rest. I even sent her fanmail, which is very unlike me. I just had to tell her that everytime I'm sewing away, listening to her Podcast, not only do I get so much more done but I get a sense of experiencing life in London for that short period of time. Simply lovely.

So what is Electric Sheep? Katie, the voice on Electric Sheep, is a knitter in London and shares stories about knitting and crafting. But it doesn't stop there. She also mixes it with a little history, philosophy and current events all related to knitting or crafts. She has a site, Hoxton Handmade, where you can also hear her Podcasts. You should definitley stop by and listen while you work. She'll have you smirking if not laughing out loud. :D

If you listened to the Electric Sheep, did you like it? :) What other Podcasts do you subscribe to?

OFF Topic: Weekend Drive

6 darling notes
Happy Friday! (It's Friday already?!)

This morning I woke up a bit early, too excited to sleep because we'll be heading down to the OC after my husband gets off of work. Katsu doesn't know it yet but I know he'll be excited as well. My dad loves my dog and ever since I moved away, he's been asking, "How's Katsu?" Everytime I'm on the phone with my sisters or mom, they comment, "I miss Katsu!" It's silly when you take something away from someone, they realize how much it meant to them. :) I think it's been at least six months since we've visited family together. The only part I worry about is my car sickness.

I was never prone to feeling nautious during car rides until recently. Ever since I could remember, my family would go on road trips around different states and I wouldn't feel a thing. During college, I'd drive back and forth about 400 miles each way, almost every other weekend and I was perfectly fine. I never really understood people who experienced this uneasy feeling. So when did I start getting car sick? I think it was about the time when I met my husbad. Odd, I know... but I realized that everytime we'd go on long car rides I'd start feeling a bit queezy. Then, it escalated to vomiting. I know it's partially in the mind but I haven't been able to control it since. The only thing I can do is not eat anything prior to the drive and think about every topic in the world except sickness. Hopefully, I'll be able to handle the 7 hour drive this time. Fingers crossed. In any case, we'll be back up here in no time. No time, meaning Monday. We just wanted to say hello to our families and spend a few hours with them. :)

Do you get carsick or know anyone that does? What do you recommend to prevent it?

Note: Next week will be the last week to enter the Mini Penguin Giveaway so don't forget to enter!

Lemony & Fotobie: The Married Penguin Couple

As promised in yesterday's post, I'm sharing the cute fan moment photos that H had sent me the other day. This darling couple noted, "We love Lemony & Fotobie a lot and they are doing very well at their new home." :D It put a huge smile on my face, so big that my husband, from across the room, asked what I was so excited about. I showed him the photos and they put a smile on his face too!

The Arrival

Fotobie looking professional with his camera

The thoughtful Lemony

I have to say, my favorite is this last one where Lemony is leaning over to the lemon tea drink because she just can't get enough! Hehe.

Thank you so much for sharing these photos with me, H&Husband! :D

Personalized Penguin Couples

Aren't they the cutest married couple? :)

Ms. H came to me and asked if I could make a penguin couple of her and her husband. She knew right off the bat what she wanted: a penguin in a cream cat costume with a lemon tea logo on the belly and a penguin wearing a gray blazer holding a camera. It made perfect sense; Her husband is a photographer and she's absolutely in love with this certain brand of lemon tea. Because they both love music, each of the penguins got a treble clef on the back. The penguins were so fun to make and it was such a pleasure working with her. Yesterday, she sent me fan moment photos so I'll be sharing those tomorrow!

How would you personalize your penguins for you and your husband?

OFF Topic: AIDS Walk San Francisco

1 darling notes

Ouchie! :P My body is still aching from yesterday's 6 mile AIDS Walk. I thought I prepared enough by jogging on the elliptical for 3 miles but I thought wrong. Hehe, very wrong.

About a month ago, my husband and I were in the city and I kept seeing AIDS Walk SF banners on the side of light posts. I've been wanting to participate in a Walk for a long time and what better cause than AIDS? Actually, there's a bunch of great causes but I decided to start with the AIDS Foundation of SF. When I got home, I immediately registered and mass emailed all my friends and family to sponsor me. Realizing that most people hate receiving emails about donations, I figured I wouldn't be able to raise as much as I'd like. I set my fundraising goal at $100 and immediately donated $25 myself. Yes, I sponsored myself. A couple days later, my friend, Justine, sponsored me and I realized I was half way done with my goal! I had to set a higher goal. So I decided $300 should be challenging enough and still realistic. Sure enough, after posting a couple status updates on my Facebook, Josh, Eric, Ryan, V and Jeff sponsored me and I was able to raise $225! Although, I was really close to my goal, I was really ecstatic about the outcome. Thank you guys for all the support! :D

Along came Sunday, when I woke up at 6am, too excited to sleep any longer. My husband and our friend, Josh, decided to join me on my Walk. I signed in as a Green Walker, which means I did all my fundraising online without using any paper. I got an AIDS Walk SF 2009 tshirt and pin! :D We watched the opening ceremony to listen to a few inspirational speakers and a lovely song by Goapele and headed for the starting line. The photo above is where we were in the line. I don't think I've ever been around so many people in one location!

The clusters of people were slowly breaking apart and I realized the line was moving. The walk started! I was eager to get near the front of the line when out of nowhere, a fly flew into my right eye! Within the first mile, I was already down. :P We "pulled over" and my husband tried to get it out of my eyeball. He was freaking out because the fly was crawling all over my eyeball. Eww! After a few attempts at squishing the fly dead first, he finally got it out of me. Note, don't keep your eye wide open when you see something fly at you. Hahaha, I may be the only non-responsive person when it comes to this though. :P After recovering from loss of tears, I headed back up the front of the line. Every mile we completed, there was a band playing which was really motivational and made it fun. :D There were lots of supporters on the sidelines cheering us on... and I distinctly remember a couple sitting on their lawn chairs, sunbrella in the ground, smoking a cigar, eating snacks and thanking all the walkers for participating. I had to laugh. I think the biggest challenge for me was after the 4th mile. My legs were cramping and my back aching, but I kept my power walk on all the way until the finish. :D

I have to say, this was a rewarding experience personally. First off, I was able to participate in a great cause which I helped raise money for. The AIDS Walk SF raised over $3.5 million! And second of all, I actually did it! I walked/powerwalked 6 miles without stopping! I haven't been an active person since I was in elementery school and I have to tell you, it felt so good physically and mentally to push myself towards a goal and make it. :D Thank you Husband and Josh for being there to support me and walking with me.

Have you participated in a Walk before? :)

Vintage Collections by Amy

Back in May, I came across MaisysMarket and her wide collection of vintage finds. I was in the process of redesigning my home office (okay, I still am, slowly but surely) and found these milk glass planters and knew right away I had to get them. Amy was such a sweet seller and I received them very quickly. So here they are, on my desk along with my green mini penguin peaking out. :)

She's got many items in her shop with great prices! I'm really diggin' this white milk glass bowl and these vintage orange bowls. Oh, and my favorite right now is this bird dish for only $6! Check out her Etsy shop for other cute vintage finds. Do you see anything you'd like in your home? :)

Hope everyone had a nice relaxing weekend. :) My husband and I went out into the city on Saturday to shop at a few Japanese stores and watched MadMen all day on Sunday. I'm super happy that his crunch is over, which means he'll be coming home at 6 instead of midnight. :) Oh, and the Renegade Craft Fair is this coming weekend along with the AIDS Walk SF that I registered for! I can't wait to share my first experience to both. :D

The photo above is of a make up artist penguin. Ms. H requested a personalized penguin for her best friend, who's a make up artist. She's got the glasses and the make up palette ready to go! :)

Personalized Penguin Plush

I know I say this often, but I think this is one of my top favorite personalized penguin plushies that I've made. :) I feel like each time a customer asks for a special order, they want to top my previous projects in creativity.

D came to me asking for a monster penguin with a slightly different look: white horns and two eyes, one small and one big. Then she wanted me to add a graduation cap with "2009", a BLT (Bacon Lettuce Tomato) Sandwich and the name "TOPPER". And here he is! :D I had so much fun putting the BLT together, I felt like a little kid trying to make the best looking play sandwich. I love my job. :P

Congrats to the graduating class of 2009! :D
